Engineering Requirements and Proposed Budget
Needs to be met by system
Primary Requirements
-
The cart shall receive a Bluetooth signal sent by a user's phone
-
The cart shall use a Bluetooth signal to traverse across a room or large hallway towards the user while avoiding large obstacles.
-
The cart shall be able to correct its course to follow the most direct path possible to the user.
-
The cart shall move in forward/back movements and make 90/180deg turns to navigate its environment.
-
The cart shall switch to IR/Line-of-Sight tracking when within a ~2m range of the user.
-
The cart shall maintain a minimum/maximum distance from the user when using IR/Line-of-Sight close range tracking.
-
The cart shall maneuver in an active work environment without running into any obstacles taller than 1in within an at least 6ft wide pathway.
-
The cart shall move across carpets while carrying a maximum load of 50lbs.
-
The cart shall, with all components and wheels needed to motorize and navigate on its own, not exceed the dimensions of 18" wide, 36" long and 39" tall.
-
The cart shall have a rechargeable battery that can sustain 1hr of continuous use before needing to be recharged.
Secondary Requirements
-
The cart shall have a chassis to cover the drive system and battery to keep it from view
-
The cart shall not have any exposed wires
The system is intended for use in the following situations:
-
Hallways >= 2m wide
-
Carpeted/concrete surfaces
-
Work spaces such as labs, garages, machine shops, convention halls and any similar room dynamic
-
Office spaces with necessary hallway width and "out of bounds" markers at the entrance to offices, stairways, etc.
Examples
Open Lab
Note: Avoid liquid spills. The Rover should not get wet and is not intended for wet surfaces.
Convention Center/Hall
Note: If the Rover is on the second or third floor, the escalators should be marked as "Out of bounds"
Garage w/ Open Pathways
Open Office Spaces/Halls
Note: Entrances to offices and cubicles should be marked as "Out of bounds". If the user is inside an office, the Rover will wait just outside until the user exits.
Salon/Barber shops
The system is not intended for use in the following situations:
-
Stairs
-
Slopes
-
Narrow Hallways (< 2m wide)
-
Any space that contains cubicles or "dead end" halls/offices
-
Outdoors
-
Slick surfaces
Examples
Cubicle "Farm"
Ramps or Angled Floors
Outdoors
Wet or Slick Surfaces
